FAQ's

What is ITEC?

ITEC is one of the leading Training providers in Essex and has been established in Basildon since 1984.
Both ITEC and its learners have won numerous awards over the years in categories such as Staff Training and Development, Technology and Trainee of the year. We are an Investor in people company and hold the positive about disabled people accreditation.
The ITEC team are friendly, trained professionals who will provide advice, support and guidance throughout your programme.

What is an Apprenticeship?

ITEC Apprenticeship programmes are designed to give young people the perfect start to working life.
An apprenticeship is a way of gaining hands on experience in a real working environment and gaining nationally recognised qualifications at the same time. It is generally made up of a Vocational Diploma Key Skills and in some cases a technical certificate.

What is a Vocational Diploma?

A Vocational Diploma is gained by building an e-portfolio of evidence based around your job role and the training you are undertaking. You will be assessed in the workplace and in the training centre by a qualified assessor.

What are Key Skills?
This qualification is built into your chosen qualification and is included in your e-portfolio. You will undertake Application of Number, Communication and Information Technology. An exam is required for each of the Key skills, however you may be exempt if you achieve C’s or above in Maths, English and I.T. at GCSE level.

What is a Technical Certificate?

The technical certificate provides underpinning knowledge for the sector you are working in and is achieved by a series of paper based assignments and a written test.
Will I do day release?
All learners on all Apprenticeship programmes may be required to attend ITEC at some point for workshop training, exams or to carry out portfolio work.
If you choose an I.T. Practitioner Apprenticeship, you may undertake an 8 week programme prior to starting your apprenticeship.

Who finds my work placement?

ITEC work with you to find companies that are looking for an Apprentice to join their team. You are encouraged however to find your own placement or you may already be employed.
All of the companies we work with are checked to ensure a safe and supportive working environment so you can learn as much as possible and succeed in your chosen career path.

Do I get paid?

The answer to this is yes! However it will depend on your circumstances as to how much you will get. Some apprentices may claim EMA, others may receive allowances or wages from the company they are placed with. This will be discussed with you at interview as it will differ from person to person.
