Stacey Brenchley - Level 2 IT Professional Apprentice
You might be wondering if attending ITEC is for you. And my answer is yes... Oh you’re a girl? Well I definitely say yes!
When I first considered taking a course at ITEC, my main concern was being singled out by a load of boys; and, even though I am one of very few girls that attend, and the only girl on my course, I wasn’t singled out. I was welcomed.
The team at ITEC are so respectful, admin and tutors alike. They all take into consideration that girls work differently to boys and they do all they can to supply the different learning methods an individual needs, male or female.
And don’t feel like you’re going to be treated like ‘one of the lads’ because it’s not always like that. I get a lot of respect from my class mates and they see I’m a girl and treat me like one. (But don’t mind when I go out to lunch with them!)
Most people stereotypically think that the IT industry is for men but I say ‘Why should it be?’
If IT is what you enjoy, why should it be prevented by a stereotype? I love technology, and the way it works. I like to discover how it works, why it works and how to fix it if it doesn’t work!
This is something that’s true to the heart, not what you’d usually get in a brochure.
Why try to make something sound good, when it does already?
